Period of Project: August 2024 - Not specified (Analyses will continue for several years)

Brief description of the Project:

R/V Hakuho-Maru cruise in the eastern Indian Ocean along 90E from 5N down to 30S was conducted in August/September 2024 to obtain physical, chemical, biological, and ecological parameters and samples in a wide region of the oligotrophic open ocean. This observational cruise is an extension of the similar cruise by R/V Hakuho-Maru in 2018 (KH-18-6, IIOE-2 endorsed project EP36), during which the large-scale interdisciplinary ocean conditions along 88E in the Bay of Bengal and the equatorial region are obtained. Combined with the data and samples obtained in the previous cruise in 2018, large-scale meridional variations of chemical/biological/ecological aspects and their relations with the background physical conditions would be investigated in detail.

Region(s) of study:

The meridional section near 90E (the eastern side of the Ninety East Ridge) from the equator ial region down to 30S in the eastern Indian Ocean
